They Say It Runs in Families

Vanity done cute

The Philosopher is in the midst of state-mandated testing. Of 5-year olds. But I'll leave that topic for now...because of course, he's a genius. So I don't mind the absolute age-inappropriate nature of the whole thing.

During one exam, the class was asked to free-write. 5-year olds. Free writing. Again, I digress. As the Philosopher wrote, he approached a metaphysical query de tal grado and could not rest. His hand shot in the air.

Upon acknowledgment, he asked his life-altering question. "Why are we doing all this writing?"

The teacher tapped his paper to re-direct attention as she replied, "It's so the district office can see how well you're doing."

The Philosopher perused his writing for a moment before resuming the pencil. "Well," he said out loud. "They certainly will be impressed."

It's hard, y'know...being that smart at such a young age. But what makes the Philosopher so very special is that he's willing to share his resplendent glory. He waltzed up to me tonight and announced, "Today was the best day of my life!"

I begged for details, since a day spent testing has never made my top-of-the-list. He couldn't wait to share. "Because today, every kid in class got a Bee Good Badge - even the kids who don't really 'be good' but they still got Bee Badges because we're such a great class! So, it was a 4...no a 10....no a bizillion out of 10 day!"

Gosh. I love this kid. Oh - and in 2 weeks, all my nieces and nephews will be here for over a week! Can't wait...the paper bag princess (Polo - you know that's her name)....the monkey (I loves my little boy)...the yet-to-be-named...and, of course, The Diva and Philosopher. All my favorite things under one roof. It's a lovely month of May in Glo-land.

I love that story. Now I'm trying to remember whether 5 year olds are supposed to know how to write words, much less anything intelligible. But I love that the Philosopher got straight to the important question. And that he has his priorities right: his best day is because everyone succeeded.

Enjoy all the kiddies!

Last weekend in our closing circle at Alchemists, a 4 year old boy came into the middle of the circle and danced and laughed and opened his arms to the energy of the moment. He represented all that is in us to truly glorify God.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful gene pool!

Cool, yet scary. Or is it scary, yet cool? I'm not sure.

Either way, it's definitely cool.

P.S. Testing five-year olds? Writing?! There's a word for that kind of thing and that word is "insane."
